Education

This might seem a little off topic but it is something that has been on my minda a lot lately, wanted to save this post. Anyways here is an article by Charlie Brooker that i thuroughly enjoyed and a coment left by a reader. It states:

"Is it true that Camilla was heard to say 'let them study at home'?

Enterprising students might take this up and create learning pools or cooperatives. The biggest thing in education is to acquire useful knowledge in a field that interests you. It impresses far more than qualifications."

This struck a chord with me is all.

Block Posters

Ok here is a website I have been meaning to revisit for some time now, Kerrie showed me it a while back. It is called BlockPoster.com and allows you blow up large Images and then slice them up into A4 sized portions ready to print. I will post pics of the art work I blow up for my bedroom walls. Will be awesome!!! I hope?

My First Pressentation

Ok this is long over due as I did this pressentation like 2 months ago now. But here are my individual slides.

The First represents Travel, globe trotting and seeing the world.
The Second is living for the day, or sezing the day. Doing whatever you can at any time in your life and not allowing anything or any preconceptions to hod you back.
The Third represents anti materialism and not being held down and inhibbited by commitments.
The Fourth shows growth, evolution and metamorphasis, through your experiences.
The Fifth identifies the combination of reality with a little bit of magic.
The 6th shows things that might have been... or unfulfiled potential or dreams.
The 7th looks at sexuality, something I dont like to shy away from and that interests me. Also gender roles and prescribed and expected/ accepted gender roles.
The 8th represents going against the grain, deffying convention, standing out. Questioning the norms and values of the time and defying taboos.
The 9th... finaly is for having fun, getting drunk and socialising.

Tales of Mere Existence

OK, Lev Yilmaz is a writing genius, some really funny short films, mostly still images and recordings of him drawing, however it is the content and the writing that makes them great.
See bellow for an example:

Paul Bennet

OK found the blog of a sculptor who has some mad skills, seems to be doing these sculpts primarily as a professional for commercial purposes. He be Paul Bennet and bellow is an example of his work.

Creative Arts Lecture Series 01

OK went along to an Arts and Design lecture at Uni yesterday,

The Guest speaker was Fraser Muggeridge. Here is his studios website. He was introduced as a graphic designer who's clients include the Tate and Serpentine galleries and the London transport agency, particularly London underground.

He started his talk with a definition of what he does stating:
"I translate my clients needs into an artifact for their audience"
He did put it a little more clearly than that, but hey I'm only human.
His work was predominantly created using found materials and he seems to lean away from overtly photo shop heavy techniques, preferring for example to blow an image up and shrink it down over and over again using photocopiers to degrade a font rather than simply using photo shop. He also seems to be someone who can appreciate imperfections and minor inconsistencies in his work, highlighting cases where they chose to leave some in.

He will use tactile techniques to create more unique work. At the end he stated that most of his more original ideas were created through things he saw and was influenced by out in the world, by stepping away from the computer

In a series of posters for the London Underground (for which they are responsible for printing artwork) they allowed mold to for on the paper before scanning it (however they had to alter the image slightly, moving specs of mold away from the London Underground logo in the bottom right, as they didn't want to be associated with mold).

In another series of artworks for the London Underground, they had to create an advertisement for a platform (underground train platform that is) based exhibition, Life is a Laugh. He stated, in some cases, using this one as an example that:

"the thing you are designing for often doesn't exist"

In this case the art work in the exhibition hadn't been completed yet and Fraser and his team had a limited understanding of what they were designing for. For this reason he visited the artist in order to talk about and see more of his work.

Whilst showing us a large number of sample images for a page lay out, experiment after experiment he stated that he would often "Do what I don't think will work" in order to step away from what he is familiar with and create something more original.

Also, don't give everything away with the poster, force them to ask questions, this was achieved with the exhibition poster. Leave people asking questions, make them want more.

He also showed us an image of a test poster, using A4 images to make up small parts of a much larger 6ft poster. Much cheaper than printing the actual thing and allows you to test weather or not it works in the space that it was intended for.

I believe he was also involved in creating a book or books for Goshka Macuga.

He also suggested that we take leaps of faith and step into the unknown, talking about another artist whose work he became interested in, he simply knocked on the artists door unannounced. This resulted in a collaboration between them where he created a booklet showcasing the artists work.
Another example of how he variates his Images and designs was to visit the local market and look for old photographs and random pieces of paraphernalia and to then try to use them in unexpected ways to create unique graphics.

Also, something he said about budgets, creating lots of examples and possible concepts for something on a small budget, many of these were created cheaply and the limited budget produces interesting creative problems.

Client - "we've only got enough budget to print in 2 colours"

Fraser - "Great, Lets use one"

Fraser - "It doesn't need to be over expensive"

One of his greatest tools is an archive of Old type faces. One example was a popular type face that he blew up to a huge scale, that allowed people to appreciate some of its little eccentricities such as the diamond shaped full stop and the "claw" shaped comma.
I really liked this last image of a one book book shelf. :)

The Story of Stuff

I just found a page developed to support an animation (one I believe I saw on YouTube yesterday). The site is called "The Story of Stuff" and supports and promotes sustainable solutions and living. Their is an interesting video posted up there that I need to watch again.

Evolution for Begginers

I looked up ant consumerism and animation and found this page looking at the work of South African Artist "Du Toit" who creates sculptures out of what could best be described as junk. These are then taken by her partners in grime "Diek Grobler and Charles Badnehorst"
Bellow is an example of there work.

I also read that the artist in her exhibition "Self Image" projected her memories and dreams onto the dolls/ sculptures. This sounds similar to projecting the back stories of my personal objects on to them, or animating around them.

Meeting with Rowan

Ok I will talk about what I can remember from my meeting with Rowan last Friday.
We started by talking about my main project, a hand drawn, character based animation.
It seemed to Rowan that I was describing a way of living, or a set of principals to live by. The key ones were Traveling and Aspirations such as those I associate with UP! and with living out all of your various dreams and fantasies, in a positive way of course.
She also noted two films that seem to share the themes that I am interested in, Click - about a remote control that allows the individual god like control of his life, however he inadvertently wishes away all of the best parts of his life. The key message being live in the now and live for what and who you have got, make the best of what you have instead of always looking towards the future.
Next was UP which covers many themes, Ideas and even locations that I personally have an interest in such as Venezuela, aspirations, never being to late to change, living for those in your life, travel, adventure and anti materialism. These again were examples of guidance on ways of living.
The main theme that developed however was anti materialism, brought about through my interest in Michel Landry's work. She stated that this is about the commodity and possibly the school of thought that leans away and is possibly repulsed by the commodity. Or those that embrace it or are trapped int he spell of the commodity. Marx and his spell of commodity.
My narrative Ideas so far deal with Emotional attachment to personal belongings/ Items. This is also apart of the context, either my own developing ideas or looking at adaptions of novels and books as a process of work. Or possibly looking at books and Novels that also deal with these themes.

My two possibilities so far seem to be to develop a narrative story or a sequence of images or events based on a theme, I asked If I could do both? Rowan gurned a bit at this like I was asking an impossible question, although in my opinion it is this way that genius lies, lots of hard work no doubt, but real solid work.

So she created a small chart asking me to look at characters in books and films and possibly art and animation. I will look at anti material characters and Materialistic characters.

It looks like my Primary Research will be in the form of Interviews - Rowan pointed me in the direction of this text, Gray & Mullins (2004) Visualizing Research : Research Methods in Art and Design.

We then went on to look more specifically at Anti Materialism, placing it at the centre of a spider diagram. Around this she came up with themes of Commodity Culture, Capitalism, Mass Consumption, What is it, What is it a response to?, a way of living?

So for the dissertation I can compare and contrast Materialist and Anti Materialist Characters. I imagine I may have to look at characters in advertising, or who have been borrowed for advertising. 3 sections or possible chapters were Film/Animation, Fiction/Books and Art/ Advertising. I do believe these were possible chapters.

Bellow this, maybe as a possible conclusion is Anti Materialism - a new trend in Culture? how and why. For this I can look at human habits and instincts towards gathering and holding onto possessions, possibly our inexplicable attachment to places and objects etc, our desire for what is familiar and our fear of what is strange and new.

That was the whole meeting.

Hexagonal

I'm not sure if this is an individual or a small studio, but never the less what they do is quite interesting. Hexagonal. The work that attracted me to this page has a lot in common with Olly Moss's work in both its Principal and its execution, although I find the links with the movie posters on this page even more vague.

Matisse

I will now admit to my poor memory. Earlier this year I saw a BBC documentary on the life and work of Matisse, but since then I keep forgetting his name every time his work comes to mind. A predominant focal point of the program was Matisse's interest in the use of colour and how that has trickled down and now shapes how we perceive and use colour in art and design. For instance his work "Icare" (Icarus) 1943 stuck in my mined as it was shown as a starting point for what we now see in the earlier apple Ipod adverts.

In addition, this work also reminds me of what I have seen from Saul Bass and in turn his influence on the work of Olly Moss.

Instructibles

My friend Kat just showed me a really great site called Instrucktibles. Basically people posting tutorials on how they built their funky costumes and props. In fact just about anything from Food, lifestyle to custom fixtures and fixings. Fantastic, check it out. Here is a photo of a statue someone made of their Queen Alien. How awesome is that? It was created by a gent who goes by the name of Alex the Movie Geek. He is listed as a Pro Instrucktable on the site, its easy to see why looking at all of his work.

Olly Moss

Ok I just came across the work of a brilliant dessigner and thinker who produces work in a style similer to that of Saul Bass. In perticular I like Ollys Fillms in Black & Red posters, so classy.
Bellow is my favorite poster in the line (kind of, they are all amazing) I like how manny of them can only be understood if you have actualy seen the films and are often related to pinical moments or aspects of the films. Check out his work.

Mad About Manga

Just saw this, dont want to forget it. Its kind of rubbish and a con, but I like some of the images and Info they have on the page.

Tuesday 17 August 2010

Today I went back to the Puppet making workshop to finish the armature for my character, I spent more time wrapping the wire framework in tinfoil and then began applying Plasticine.
I managed to get a little further than the image on the right implies :P

Left: Wire Armature with Poly clay Limbs and head. Left: Wire armature covered in layers of tinfoil, and half covered in thin layer of plasticine.

Oh also, on the way out of the gallery today I was able to snap these, I believe they were mad by a girl working at the gallery called Olivia. Think they look kind of awesome and would like to give it a shot at making some of my own (everything in my home should have a touch of art and craft).

DVNO

This little Video links back to one of my earliest posts about the Justice video DVNO.

Great Animation Challenge

Here is a link to the great animation challenge and here is another to the audio tracks that can be downloaded as inspiration for creating an animation to enter into the challenge.

I will use this a s a good opportunity to post links to the animations I saw at Flip Festival (where I heard about the "Great Animation Challenge", I found all of these quite entertaining.

First "Black Dogs Progress" by Steve Irwin (this ones a bit disturbing) It was awarded best in the UK at Flip Festival. Check out his blog here.

Next was "The Terrible Thing Of Alpha 9" by Jake Armstrong, which was sweet and funny (had a nice Jamie Hewlett style... sorry if that detracts from this work in Anny way) This was awarded best international film.

The Best Experimental Film was won by Virginia Mori with "Play of Silence" another strange one, even has a few moments that made my skin crawl (worth while just for those moments) if not for the intrigue created by the film as a whole. I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about the animator at a quick glance.. shame.

Best Newcomer was taken by Rabbit Punch, directed by Kristian Andrews. Love the Audio and the visual style. (Random Opinion)

Next is Best of Festival, Which I kinda disagree with, technically the most impressive and I'm sure it does have a soul to it, but compared to some of the raw energy of the others I find it a little lacking and think it runs for to long. "Kudan" by Taku Kimura.

Best Stop Motion was taken by Bang Yao Lui with "Deadline", also check out his making of here.

And Finlay the Special Jury mention went to "Man Up" by Ed Barrett which might actually be my favorite. I couldn't find the whole film as the rights are held by the royal college of art :( sorry peeps.

Today

Well, Just wanted to talk about what I've been up to today as it is kind of relevant. I went into the Wolverhampton art gallery to partaker in some animation workshops. I will Post the name and details of the animator running the events, Ive met her twice now but still cant remember her name (how bad am I?) Today I worked on making an armature using wire twisted together to create the basic shape, this was then held together by a basic polymer clay that had been set. These were to create rigid forms for the head, arms and legs. I might try and snap a picture of one tomorrow. Once the Polymer has set It is wrapped in an adhesive first aid bandage, this prevents it from cracking (to badly) under the various stresses you will place the puppet under. From this point I wrapped the whole moddle in a base layer of Tin foil, the point being to build up around this with foil to create the shape of the character, on top of this will be a layer of plasticine which will make up the bulk of the character. It is important to do it this way (apparently) to prevent to much warping in the general shape of the character, also as the weight of the character may be to much if made entirely from plasticine, also I believe the weirs would work their way to the surface If placed directly into a plasticine body.

Now I will be going back tomorrow to continue building up the tin foil layer of my moddle, I will find out a bit more about the animator lady who is running the workshops.

I also just finished listening to a collection of audio tracks taken from stand up comedy and other funny(ish) sources. These are intended to be used to make an animation to be entered into the Flip Festival animation festival, I might give it a shot although I only have 15 days left to enter. Not sure If I can make it or If I will be able to find any real inspiration in the tracks.

Oh, just encase I forget, here are the names of two interesting animation/ graphic design firms I need to look into, Mainframe, Tomato, Atic, Framestore.

Fluffy MC Cloud

I found a link to Fluffy McCloud by Conor Finnegan whilst looking around on the "Flip Animation Festival" website. I found it really quite charming and entertaining. It was created for his graduation at IADT National Film School. It is a mixture of stop-motion, live action and hand drawn animation, shot in his attic on a Cannon EOS 5D, Cannon 450D and a 7D. Check out the rest of his work on his Vimeo Home Page.
Well check out the vid, is very, very sweet...

More Drawing Tips

One of my best friends just sent me this post over facebook. It was in response to the link he sent me that I discussed in my last post.

ME: checked it out, like the lighting in a lot of the photosets, I still find it strange that the artistic community is bashfull in its aversion to male nudity, theirs like 2 or 3 male moddles posted, I think that this is strange. Sure it is nicer to look at prettie women but this is supposed to be serious work?

David: I think theres probably quite a few reasons behind it. For a start there's a lot more female models trying to make it and therefore there's more female models willing to do low/unpaid work. This is a site that isn't capitalising on their stock photography, they're probably not spending much/any money on the shoots. I think most of the models are ... See Moreprobably friends/girlfriends of site owners/photographers, since some appear in quite a few shoots. Plus the male form is a bit harder to appear tasteful... since somethings always just there... hanging. Then again, I spend a lot of time studying out of anatomy books where most of the anatomy and structure is explained through the male form, it's quite refreshing to study the female form. Since its free I'm just greatful they put the effort into it as they do.

But anyway! Its also worth checking out the tutorial section on there too. Kevin Chens workshop sketches are definately worth studying too, his gesture work is incredible... makes me sick with jealousy! You can learn a lot just sketching a few of his drawing demonstrations, though i suggest to get full benefit do it on something big (A3 or bigger), makes you see the benefit of using your whole arm. There used to be a link on that site for Rebbecca Kimmels workshop on opposing curves, but now its at cg society: http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=3346 Definately worth the read.

Lastly, sure I've shown u this before, but its always worth a read but http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm is probably one of the best things I've come across online - art wise.

His response made me laugh but I also think that there is a hell of a lot of good advice in there.

Character Designs

Hey, here is a way cool character design website that a friend pointed out to me, they have some great photo sets up there for observational study. I do find it odd that there is such a massive bias towards attractive female nudes, there are so few male nudes to be found on the majority of sites, I am surprised that the artistic community is so bashful when it comes towards male nudity, in the digital domain at least. Craziness.
Bellow is an example of what they have up there, check it out, the lighting in many of the images is fantastic.

Webb Comic

Hey, the image bellow is from the same Webb comic I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I just think that this one is really sweet and is a good representation of spontaneity, even in those moments where it seems a little forced. I really like it.

Tin Ni Tus

Just watched this, reminded me of Silent Hill even before the siren started to ring. Something about the voice acting, and the slight mix of sex and violence that manifest on an emotional level based around the characters deep emotional scars. Is interesting.

Watch more cool animation and creative cartoons at Aniboom

Found it on Aniboom.

The Piano

Little animation, so-so in my opinion, not that I could do better, thought it was more interesting towards the beggining, focusing directly on the piano, didnt like it when It trailed off towards the middle, should have been a shot featuring all the people in his life playing allongside him in my opinion. Anyways here it is, great tune tho.

Jan Svankmajer

I need to look at more of this guys work, but here is a clip of "Alice" that I was shown by my Lecturer Anica in my second year of uni. I remember being completely fascinated by this interpretation. I hope that I get to see the whole thing soon.

Meat Love, to wet your appetite for more of his work... :)

Flora, which I found strange and disturbing...

Dimensions of Dialog which I fount almost erotic at first, then just strange. I think it was the expressions on the female characters face that I liked at first. It is a shame about the quality of the version I have linked to.

Loopy Boopy Dolls

Hey, got pointed in the direction of some interesting dolls/ puppets just now, think they are really interesting. All of them are hand made, sell for about $150.00 each I thinks, which sounds fair to me. The eyes on them I think are the most unique and creepy part. I like them.

Prince Camaralzaman & the Princess of China

I read a fragment of this myth/fairy tale within Joseph Campbell's "Hero with a Thousand Faces"Campbell only covered the story up until the point where the Djin return the Princess to China, I liked this at the time, gave the tale a great deal of mystery, I really enjoyed the conversation between the Djin and the visualisation I had of them. I found the version used in Campbell's book had a slightly more sophisticated writing style, and was more consistent in its description of the Djin, I also feel it was much more detailed in its various descriptions of the characters and the events. I also believe that the princess was bitten on the naval to inspire lust... or something in the version that I first read.
I mention this because I really did like this story. Campbell explains it as an example of how Heroes can refuse the call to adventure, which can often end in tragedy for the characters but in this case only postpones it for a greater call to adventure later on.
I imagined, when I didn't know the ending, that they were either permanently separated from each other, their efforts to find each other would cause a greater incident of fate or that the heavens themselves, the Djin, would have a greater involvement in the tale.

Make You own Avatat

Ok I might not quite be able to reproduce this yet myself, but most of the techniques he appears to use are recognisable to me and I believe anyone with a competent knowledge of Photoshop.
I came across it on this Avatar obsessed blogg, which is in itself quite interesting.

Skhizein

I also came across this whilst looking up links for the cat piano this morning. Skhizein by French animator Jeremy Clapin.

This is an absolutely fantastic premise:

The Cat Piano

Check this out, The Cat Piano. It was created by the Australian team, The Peoples Republic of- Animation. I thoroughly enjoyed watching... and listening to this piece of work. Gotta love Nick Caves voice. I need to look further into this but is Nick Cave a big animation fan, he is working on this but also the last time I came across him was when I heard about a collaboration between him and Mark Craste of Studio AKA?

Trevor Hardy

I made a post that Included some of Trevor's work yesterday that didn't go into much depth.
I will correct that now. You can find his website here. He also has a few more lovely short films posted their. Hope you enjoy.

Madame Tutli Putli

WOW, just watched this short film. Looks absolutely gorgeous and so intense to boot.
I wanted to watch this 18 months ago at the film festival in Auckland but missed my chance.
Forgot about it until now. I just find it amazing how beautiful the puppets face looks in some of the shots. Go here to find out about the woman behind Madam Tutli Putli's eyes. Also Jason Walker's site demonstrates how the eyes were compossited onto the puppet. It goes into considerable depth.

The film has its own site here where you can find out more about the crew, the production and the directors/ animators Maciek Szczerbowski and Chris Lavis.

British Animations 01

Ok below are some British Animations I should consider when thinking about every aspect of my own work.
Liver Good Life: An informative animation about Liver health and disease prevention.

Phoebe Boswell has some great work, she is an artist who has been experimenting with animation, check out all of the work on her website, she has some beautiful work posted up their.
Bellow is an example of some of her work and her show reel. Check out her page on Vimo to see a little more of her animation work.

Show reel from Phoebe Boswell on Vimeo.

Here is another one from Phoebe Boswell that I quite like. I think it could be improved however if the characters overtook each other (this may go against the intended reading of the piece) as the feet of some seem to be moving faster than others, I think that this would make the piece slightly more interesting to the eye and much more dynamic.

The Carriers III from Phoebe Boswell on Vimeo.

I have also been looking at the work of Tom Judd. A graduate from RCA London.
Bellow is the teaser trailer for his short film, 'Bruce' which I believe won the award for best student film at BAF09. I just wish I could see the whole film. Check out his site, it is nice.

Bruce - trailer from Tom Judd on Vimeo.

I was also struck by the style of the images in Tom's note/ sketch book.
Bellow is an image of one of the pages from his book. It has a style that I have ever so slightly adopted in my own note book, the use of colour in particular.
Ok next we have Lottie White who has a very cute website filled with beautiful Illustrations and animations. Her animation "I see what you are saying" was a finalist in the student category of BAF09. Below is her animation "I can't see". Also an example of her brilliant illustration.

NEXT: Billy Allison, a professional animator of 25 years. Here is his website with loads of stuff up on his page. Bellow is an animation that was featured at this years BAF awards in the short, short films category. "Highly Overated", check it out:

Now another animation from the short, short films category at BAF09,
this time a film by Trevor Hardy called "At Death's Door" which I thought was quite funny, I like the old Lady's no nonsense attitude, it reminds me of the animation "How to Cope with Death" Also a link to another film he released last year called 'Pushkin' which is also very funny.

WOW, just watched 'Stupid Table' by Andy Sykes, he won best short, short film at BAF09 with this. I related to this film in particular the way he describes his growth and progression, also I to was on the stupid table in primary school (so to speak) , I also love art and feel that my brain untangled in senior school meaning that I caught up with and surpassed many of my peers academically (not all tho, not by a long shot). In this short I also like the posters in his bedroom, some of which are very cool as they change over time.

I think he has a great sense oh humor, I recommend checking out his site and watching:
'Andy's Life Animations', 'Zimmy's Minnie Stories', 'Evil Fun With Zimmy' and his coloring book advert. Hell watch everything the guy has good story telling technique, I even detected a really sad subtext to 'Special Glue'.

Ok I have been looking at yet more animations that featured at the Bradford festival this year.

'Christmas at Small Birds Singing' was screened at the festival and as a result I also stumbled across the original short animation. They are both directed by 'Linda McArthy' check her out at Tiny Elephants.co.uk a very attractive website, some oddities on sale their as well.

Bellow is an extract from Philip Bacon's animation 'Yellow Belly End'. He is represented by
'Slinky Pictures' and another extract from this animation can bee seen on their page as well as a whole collection of extracts from the work of other animators registered with them. I recommend watching the extract from 'Yellow Belly End' that I found on 'Slinky Pictures' page. Watch it after the clip posted bellow, together they tell an interesting story. I would like to see the full movie to see if the story is told in this order.

Now for this next one, I know most of his work isn't done in the UK but I believe that it is where this next piece was made so I will Include it. Again check out his site fore some very freaky stuff.
I recommend 'Nose' bellow but 'Wolves' which was screened at BAF09 can be found on his site.

Ok, yet another one 'TXT Island' by Chris Gavin, check him out here.

Photograph of Jesus by Laurie Hill. this site has some interesting people and their work on it.

Check out the work of Bali Engel, and his animation 'Norwich to Sheringham' which was also shown at BAF09.

Wow, this shit is funny. Literally.

This 'Film about Poo' was directed by Emily Howells and Anne Wilkins.

More Advice

I would just like to make a note of some of the advice I got from Dave today. First off he mentioned a U.S website where people are able to post stings that small companies can buy and use, I am not sure if they are intended for broadcast, online use or for internal promotion, however the idea is that you create a generic ident that any company could use, allowing them to either add small changes or leaving them space to add their own images and logo. The idea being that you create this without any brief but sell it for around $10, however you have the right to sell it to as manny people as possible. He gave example of some selling in excess of 300 coppies, which would make a tidy proffit for the designer.
Anyway as well as being a useful piece of informatio (I just have to finde the site now) this stressed the point that it is important for me to know what my customer wants out of the designe. What do bussinesses want.

New Friend (I hope)

I made an interesting friend today, supose he is still an aquaintence at the moment. Started talking to the guy, who is called David by the way, who lives just at the end of my street. Started talking today about my old fasioned sledge as I walked past his house in the very heavy snow that we have had up here this morning. Anyways turns out he has spent years working in tellevision independently. He seemd pleased to be spaking with someone who was into a similar subject. Anywho of the manny things we talked about, predominantly film and software he told me that I should deffinetly have a look at the film Nocturne. A short film shot on a DSLR, the point being that technology has advanced so far that we can now shoot footage of a similar quality to "Raw film cameras" (I hope I have got my terminology correct their). He mad a point of explaning that the opening sequence of "Slum Dog Millionair" was shot with a stills camera in order to avoid having expensive camera equipment damaged or stolen in the rough slumms that they fillmed in. In David's opinnion this will be a great aid to some film makers reducing the amount of equipment that they need to take with them especial if they are filming in remote regions. I believe he feels that this is the way that our tecnology is changing and that the quality of footage obtained by these still image cameras is simply amasing.
Also, an interesting competition starting in a few days that cannon has set up. I bellieve that it will run for about 8 months.
Oh and bellow are some shots of the snow that I was talking about today.
